Beware the “Integrity Scam Artist!”Periodically, an unknown person attempts to scam Integrity members, Integrity chapters, diocesan offices, and Episcopal/Anglican congregations throughout North America by telephone. [More than one person may be engaging in the same scam.] The perpetrator generally pretends to be an Integrity member in need—sick, beaten up, or robbed. For plausibility, the perpetrator often assumes the name of a real Integrity member. He usually asks the victim to wire money to him at a Western Union office. Be aware that caller ID is not always an accurate indicator of the scammer's physical location. Some VoIPs "mask" unlisted or blocked numbers by displaying a standard but nonfunctional number on the recipient's caller ID. Please encourage your local members and diocesan/parish offices to be wary of this scam. Individuals who are solicited may wish to file a report with their local police department. Other LGBT faith organizations have been plagued by a similar scam. Unfortunately, we have not been able to persuade the FBI to investigate this case because of the small dollar amounts involved. Use the form below to log a close encounter with this scammer. This will help others from being victimized. |
